H is for Helvetica
H is for Helvetica is a 28-page interactive pop-up book that introduces children to the world of design through the alphabet. Both engaging enough for a three-year-old and intentional enough for a designer to keep on their shelf.
Interactive ABCs
❋ Insight
At a time when screens dominate childhood attention, kids still light up around physical, tactile objects, especially ones that feel like an activity rather than a textbook. Children learn through doing, not just reading. A pop-up book meets kids at their developmental level while giving the content a sense of wonder that a flat page can't. Pairing that format with the alphabet, something every child learns, creates a natural entry point into the world of design without it ever feeling like a lesson.
❋ Challenge
Children's books that introduce creative careers are rare, and the ones that exist tend to talk down to their audience. The challenge was creating a book that could genuinely engage kids ages 3–6 while also appealing to the design-literate parents and creatives who would actually buy it, without compromising either experience.
This is an AI free project
While many projects utilize AI for Photoshop and image generation, this project is intentionally done without AI use.
❋ Solution
H is For Helvetica is a 28-page interactive pop-up book priced at $15.99, where each letter introduces a concept or career from the design world.
The pop-up elements keep young readers physically engaged while the content plants early seeds of creative curiosity. The visual style is whimsical enough for a child and considered enough for a designer to put on a shelf. It works as a read-together book for families and as a collectible for design enthusiasts who never quite grew up.
